Odia's Burial: Befitting Home-Going Ceremonies for A Physiotherapy Icon
The Pioneer Head and founder of the Physiotherapist Education program at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Professor Gabriel Ikhidero Odia, was sent forth in well-attended and befitting ceremonies in Lagos; January 7-8, 2016. Professor Chukuka S. Enwemeka, Provost and Senior Vice-President of the San Diego State University gave an eulogy of Professor Nwuga in the presence of the Nwuga family, distinguished guests, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers. E.B. John Visits Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Kenya
May 24-26, 2014: Dr. Emmanuel B. John, Executive Director of the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network was invited by the Vice-chancellor of the Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK), Kisumu, Kenya to consult for their various physiotherpy programs. GLUK currently operates a B.Sc Physiotherapy degree, and a Diploma-BScPT Bridge programs. The University aspire to also commence a MSc in Physiotherapy program in the future. The Honourable Vice-Chancellor (President) of the University of Nigeria (UNN), Professor Bartho Okolo recently extended an invitation to Dr. Emmanuel B. John, Executive Director of the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network to consult and conduct a program assessment of the Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (BMR) Program at the University. Dr. John visited the UNN BMR program July 28-31, 2013; and has since submitted his report and recommendations on program upgrade to the Honourable Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Batho Okolo, the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria was hosted by US-based Nigerian Physiotherapists to a dinner in Baltimore, MD. This was a follow up to Dr. E.B. John's visit to UNN July 29-31, 2013 on the invitation of the Honourable Vice-Chancellor for Programmatic assessment of the BMR program at UNN. Dr. Emmanuel B. John, an Alumnus of the Department of Physiotherapy, College of Medicine, University of Lagos has donated a computer set with latest software and over 140 electronic textbooks and a non-expiring anti-virus package, all valued at over One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1.5m), to the Department of Physiotherapy, College of Medicine, University of Lagos. The "Giving Back Program" initiated by the Executive Director of the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network, Dr. Emmanuel B. John has successfully shipped two batches of physical therapy text-books and equipment to the new Physiotherapy Program at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi, Anambra State Nigeria. This pilot program to help support physical therapy programs in Nigeria is just a beginning of efforts by Nigerian trained physical therapists in the diaspora to give back.In recognition of this effort, the Departmental Library of the Medical Rehabilitation Department at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has been renamed the "Dr. E.B. John's Library".
