Chukuka S. Enwemeka appointed Professor & Dean, College of Health Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
The Nigeria Physiotherapy Network (NPN) is extremely pleased to report the appointment of Professor Chukuka Enwemeka as Dean and Professor, College of Health Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. The NPN join colleagues from around the world in congratulating the world reknown Nigerian trained physiotherapist and expert in the area of photoengineering of tissue repair process with visible and near infrared light and lasers on this appointment.
Professor Enwemeka who is a graduate of the University of Ibadan BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy program is moving away from New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT) School of Health Professions, Behavioral and Health Sciences where he served as Dean and Professor from March 1, 2003 to July 31, 2009. Prior to his NYIT position he was Professor and Chairman, Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas from 1993 to 2003.
Professor Enwemeka is an astute researcher, a vastly published author, international Journal Editor-in-Chief, a Physical Therapist, an anatomist, a Consultant, a highly sorted-after international speaker, an academic administrator and leader, a mentor, one of the foremost experts on Laser Therapy and photobiology, an educational consultant and curriculum expert, a sports medicine expert, a visiting professor to various schools around the world, and much more.
According to the Chancellor of UWM, Carlos E. Santiago, who appeared extremely pleased that Professor Enwemeka accepted the offer of appointment stated in a press release.... "We welcome Dr. Enwemeka and his extensive leadership experience to our College of Health Sciences. His multidisciplinary approach to the health sciences and to the collaboration necessary to move forward research initiatives will certainly benefit UWM and this region in these areas." The Provost and Vice Chancellor for academic affairs, Rita Cheng, also stated in the same press release "Chukuka's vision, reputation, experience and enthusiasm for UWM combine to make him a great choice for the College of Health Sciences and for the university. From the advice I've received from within the university and from community stakeholders, I am confident that he will work with the faculty, staff and students to advance research, undergraduate and graduate education, and make significant contributions to the economic development of Southeastern Wisconsin." Professor Enwemeka was appointment into this prestigeous position, chosen from among a pool of highly qualified and outstanding candidates for the same position.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a public research university located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. As Wisconsin's urban university, UW-Milwaukee is one of the two doctoral granting public research universities in the state. It is also the second largest university in the state of Wisconsin, with a total student enrollment of 29,000 and 1,349 faculty members. Located in Milwaukee's upper East Side close to Lake Michigan, the University is home to 14 schools and colleges, and 70 academic centers, institutes and laboratory facilities. It offers a total of 155 degree programs, including 84 bachelor's, 48 master's and 27 doctorate degrees. The university's athletic teams are called the Panthers. The UWM's College of Health Sciences (CHS) is the largest school of its kind in the state of Wisconsin. CHS offers academic degree programs at undergrad, graduate, and now Ph.D. levels where students learn from esteemed, award-winning faculty. Students earn certificates which gives them a professional advantage, or attend non-credit Outreach presentations to continue their life-long learning. The CHS's metropolitan location gives it ties to more than 100 local health care and recreation agencies. These partnerships provide jobs, community service opportunities, and settings for practical experience that augments classroom instruction. As at Fall 2008, the CHS has a total of total 1835 students (1645 undergraduates and 190 graduate students distributed as: 26.51% male, 73.49% female and average-age 22.3 years) and 60 faculty and teaching academic staff.
