The 8th Biennial Conference of WCPT Africa Region held in Accra, Ghana
The World Confederation for Physical Therapy, Africa Region (WCPTA) held its 8th biennial congress in Accra, Ghana from July 21-23, 2010. The theme of the conference was: Theme: "MOVING PHYSIOTHERAPY FORWARD IN AFRICA" , and Sub-Themes: "Burden of disabling diseases" and "Physiotherapy in occupational health". The event was held at the Ghana College of Physcians and Surgeons.
The event was a very spectacular, and a tremendous success. The Ghana Association of Physiotherapists played host to their colleagues from all over Africa including attendance from four Francophone countries participating for the first time! The Ghana event was spectacular, and we congratulate the local organizing committee led by Jonathan Quartey deserves commendations. This great occasion, the 8th in Africa since the regionalization of WCPT was a spectacular event which physiotherapists from all member countries join together to update each other's knowledge through research papers, posters, workshops and short courses on matters of current relevance. Living in a rapidly changing and dynamic world neccessitate the need for scientific gathering of this nature to keep abreast of recent developments. Specifically, the Congress brings together an array of distinguished physiotherapy academicians and clinicians as well as a few other health professionals, both local and international, to share their experiences in their various fields of endeavour.
The opening ceremony was graced by the President of WCPT, Dr. Marilyn Moffat, Representative of the Ghanian Vice President and Minister of Health.

The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy led by President Adeoluwa Jaiyesimi made a very strong showing during the Ghana Congress contributing over 70% of total conference attendees and presenters of scientific papers, rapporteurs, chairs of plenary sessions, abstract reviewers, etc.
